Thursday 13th October 2011 – Windsurfing ( La Franqui ) **** 36.46 kts
– sunny and warm
We woke up to a few clouds! At the noisy canal – the water flowing
through the outlet and the 7a.m. traffic made it fairly noisy but thats
because we have been used to the very quiet (apart from the honking
flamingos!) at Peyreic but still had my best night’s sleep for ages :)
We had breakfast then headed down to the coast at La Franqui again and
parked by the wooden jetty. It was too windy, (gusting to over 40mph!!!)
when we got there but I walked the beach with some very friendly Dutch guys
called Jean Pierre and Hans (another one!). We decided to stay at the start
of the course have a go then when they were ready it seemed to drop off a
bit but it picked up again later! I rigged 5.2 and took out the speedboard
and tried for a couple of mile runs to start but way too bumpy for me :(
and I was taking no chances getting back up wind wind an old wave boom and
never strayed out of my depth, which made getting back a bit time
consuming. Also I was nervous of getting too close to the beach as there
were a couple of shallow spots but no crashes today. Time for a lunch break
and then tried the falcon 80 with 5.2 but the wind had eased so changed to
5.8 and said my goodbyes to Jean and Hans who were heading back to Holland.
I had a few runs on the slalom board but just getting slower and it was
bumpy the whole course :( Top speed on the day was 39kts so not a fast
day!!! Mag spent the day doing her maps in the van and chatting to Dutch
windsurfers :) she is quite happy in her own little bubble in the van:)
Peter and Gill are off exploring the mountains over near the two ruined
castles in the Corbieres thank goodness. He sailed yesterday and that’s
it he isn’t going to sail anymore and they are planning to be at Salagou
on Saturday night before heading home on Sunday.Off water at 5:30 de-rig
two sails and head off to Lac du Salagou stopping off at the supermarket at
Port la Nouville I had a good sail, no records and very bumpy so not the
best day ever at La Franqui but ok and it finished off my sailing stint
nicely. We had a bit of a fiddly drive through Narbonne and Bezier as it
was leaving off time but got here about 8.30. Chucked all the windsurfing
gear out by the reeds and had bacon and egg for tea :) The internet
connection has gone though :(
